How to export from Schwab

On schwab.com, go to Accounts > History.
Pick the account and the Transactions view, then choose the widest date range it allows.
Click Export and save the CSV.

Schwab changes its menus from time to time, so the labels may differ slightly. You want the transaction history export, not Positions or Realized Gain/Loss.

How to export from E*TRADE

On etrade.com, go to Accounts > Activity (some menus call it Transactions) and pick the account.
Leave the activity type on All Transactions and choose the widest date range (Duration) offered.
Click Download, choose CSV rather than Excel, and confirm.

E*TRADE changed this export in February 2026 when it moved to Morgan Stanley's systems, so labels may vary. Both the current file and the older DownloadTxnHistory.csv are read. If you only get an .xlsx file, open it and save it as CSV first.

How trades are matched

Both brokers' defaults: shares are one FIFO pool per ticker, and each short call is paired with free shares first, then with a long call (LEAP) that expires on or after it. Shares the file shows being sold or held but never bought (or moved in with no price, like stock-plan allocations) are flagged as cost unknown. A short call with no shares or LEAP in the file to cover it is marked coverage unknown, never "naked": shares bought before the file starts don't show up in it.
